The Magical Beech Tree

A favourite excursion for Swedes in late spring is to watch the play of light in a beech tree forest. The sun light trickles through the pale green leaves giving the world a fairy tale air.

Beech wood was in the old days used for mill wheels and when building boats – it can be split into smooth planks without a saw, just with the help of an axe.
